SUNDAY CLOSING.
Sia — It is rather surprising to see it reported that Mr. Stafford, in answer to a question, had stated at his meeting held in the Arcade on Tuesday evening, that he waa in f ayonr of publiohouse3 being r>pen for a certain time on Sundays. Surely this is not Mr. Stafford's idea of progression. I tru3t that, for the sake of the reputation of the ward, the electors "will not overlook this when judging the merits of the respective candidates, for 6urely all right-thinking men mu3t agree that the opening of publichouaes for the sale of intoxicating drinks on Sundays would be a step in the wrong direction, and one which would have a gaeat tendency to increase the drunkenness, want, and poverty, ¦which we all deplore. am, <40.,' Te Abo.
