GIFT AFTERNOON
In honour of Miss Mabel Jackson, who is to be married this week, a gift afternoon was held in Springston South Hall. Musical items were given by Mrs H. A. Fletcher and competitions were won by Mes^ dames Leslie, R. Chapman and C. H. Heywood. From the Methodist Ladies' Guild and friends, Mrs E. J. Harris asked Miss Jackson to accept a large number of useful gifts for her future home, together with the good wishes of her friends. Mrs Ryan, president of the Basketball Club, also handed a gift to Miss Jackson from the members.
HOME GUARD The Springston South unit of the Home Guard visited Tai Tapu on Saturday afternoon for rifle practice. TABLE TENNIS Results of the recent table tennis tournament held at Springston South in aid of the soldiers' comforts fund, were:
Women: A grade, Miss P. Blakemore; B. Grade, Miss Ford. Men: A grade, D. Halliday; B grade, B. Jamieson; C grade, T. N. Beckett; D. Grade, M, Woods; E grade, L. Faulkner. Mrs A. Powell, chairwoman of the comforts committee, declared the tournament open and thanked all concerned for their support. Mr D. Halliday was in charge of the play. PERSONAL, Mrs C. N. Powell is spending a holiday in Geraldine as the guest of her sister, Mrs W. H. Kirk.
Mrs A. G. Fincham visited her parents, Mr and Mrs T. Greaves, during the week-end.
