Brookside

THE WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

Mrs W. Graham presided over a fair attendance at the monthly meeting of Brookside Women's Institute. Mrs Gardiner was welcomed back to fill her place as secretary, after her illness. The roll call "Home Remedies," was well responded to, some of the answers proving very useful. Mesdames Graham and Gardiner were elected delegates to the half-yearly conference to be held in October. It was decided that the proceeds of next month's competition should be for men on the minesweepers. The Patriotic Committee is to be asked to provide the next lot of parcels for the local men serving overseas and the institute is to pack them.

Mr Saunders gave a very interesting address on the international situation, for which he was accorded a vote of thanks.

The competition results were: — Trumpet daffodils, Miss M. Brooks 1, Mrs Gardiner 2, Mrs Cunningham 3; anemones, Mrs Cunningham 1, Mrs Saunders 2, Mrs Graham 3; bowl of spring flowers, Mrs Gardiner 1, Mrs Graham 2, Mrs Croy 3; floating bowl, Mrs Bowden 1, Miss M. Brooks 2, Mrs Saunders 3.

The hostesses Hight and Buchly.
