LINCOLN

The Lincoln-Tai Tapu sub-branch of the Plunket Society held a committee meeting on Thursday, Mrs J. W. Calder presiding over a good attendance. Mrs I. W. Weston and Mrs L. Thomson were appointed joint secretaries of the dance committee.

The Lincoln Presbyterian Church held the annual tea and concert in the hall on Thursday. The concert was arranged by the Christchurch Scottish Society and was very enjoyable. A fair number attended.

The Lincoln women's hockey team travelled to Christchurch on Saturday afternoon to play against Kiwi at Hagley Park. In a hard game Lincoln was unable to score and was defeated by four goals to nil. The referees were Messrs Forzey and Olgolvie.

The Lincoln girls' basketball team travelled to Ladbrooks on Saturday afternoon to play Ladbrooks team. The ground was very slippery after the recent rain and frost, and made play very difficult. Lincoln defeated their opponents by six goals to one. Miss Betty McLaughlin was the referee. The teams were entertained to afternoon tea in the schoolroom.

The Lincoln Football Club held a very successful dance on Saturday evening. Cards were played in the anteroom, the most successful players being Miss Peggy Haskett and Mr G. Dunnr The winners of the Monte Carlos were Miss Joyce Mitchell and Mr E. Boyle, and Miss Smith and Mr

R. Miller. Collins's Band supplied a programme of popular dance music. Mr B. Moran and Mr J. Greaves shared the duties of master of ceremonies. The Lincoln School has re-opened for the second term, the pupils having had a fortnight's vacation.
