ELLESMERE RUGBY SUB-UNION

A meeting of the Ellesmerc Ruglv Sub-union was held iv the A. and P Room, Leeston, on Thursday night There were present: Messrs R. T. Me Millan (president), W. Watson (hon, secretary), W. A. McMillan, W. O, Ronnie, F. Miller, W. A. Nelson, W. .T. Woods, P.'Delargey, Ormond, Join; Ronnie, G. W. E. Osborne, Chapmar and T. .1. Ditfort. Messrs J. Hutton (Southbridge), L. •Jack (Southbridge), A. W. Green (Leeston), F. Lill (Dunsandel), an'] ■J. Millar (Killinchy) were also present in connexion with the proposal to stait a competition for primary schoolboys. The president said it was thought that the competition could be so ar ranged that the schools on north side of the Selwyii river should play each other and the schools on the south side would do likewise, the leading team in the north part of the district to play tlie lading team on the sooth side in the final. This would obviate long rlistnncc travelling. Mr ilutton said he thought the subunion was acting 1 very wisely in ■ endeavouring to promote a schoolboys' competition. He agreed with Mr Hutton's views, but thought there should be an age limit, say 10 to 14 years. Mr Jack said ,he thought it would be preferable to have a weight limit instead of an age limit. Mr Lill said that Dunsandel - would have difficulty in making up a team of 15. It might be advisable to limit the teams to 12 players. The president said it would be a mistake to have teams of under 15 players. Amalgamation would be preferable. Mr Millar said that Killinchy could Wnister about 10 players. They would be willing to join forces with. Dunsandel school. Killinchy could secure a ground. The president said that Irwell and Brookside schools would be willing to participate. Mr Nelson expressed the opinion that Doylcston would not be able to find a team of 15.

Mr Miller remarked that it would be a good thing if the schools games could be played as curtain raisers 'to the senior and junior matches. Mr Jack thought that many of the matches could be played on Friday afternoon . Mr Millar said that if played as curtain raisers the boys would see the sea ior matches and learn a good deal. Mr Dclargey expressed the view that there would be no difficulty about transit for the boys' games. There were people who would rather convey the boys than the seniors. » Jerseys should be provided for the boys and collection could be taken up at matches in their interests.

■ It was agreed that the schools should nominate- two delegates to the union to. look after the interest's of the schools. The president thanked the schools representatives for meeting the union to dir-'.uiss the matter.

The schools representatives then withcliew and held a meeting to discuss arrangements for the boys' competition, from Dunsandcl to Southbridge Club con ditional on a clearance from DunsanMr E. Partridge, headmaster of Lincoln School, wrote that' he was not propared to promise support for the schools competition until he had more partculars. The question of transit was a difficult one to solve. The secretary of the new United Club applied for affiliation and stated that his club wished to enter a senior and junior team in the competitions. Lincoln College Club gave notice of a motion to be moved at next meeting amending a rule and adding a clause. A. Campbell was granted a transfer fromDunsand< vl to Southbridge Club con ditional upon a clearance from Dunsau del.Club being procured. The president brought up the question of a suitable trophy for the schools competition i He would be pleased to donate a bannei', cup, ,shield or other suitable trophy. The presiednt's offer was accepted with thanks. .«■.
