A meeting of the Programme and Management Committees, at Lauder on Friday afternoon, was attended by Messrs A. C. Scoular (chair), H. Stevens, A. Anderson. J as. Sheppard, J. Nayior, S. T. Spain, J. Wilson. A. Richards, J. Clare, G. Harvey, C White Moran, G. Larking. J. Beattie, J. Holloway, W. Gallagher, Moran, R. Mee, S. R. Sexton, and F. Wilson. The question of arrears of nominations and acceptances was discussed, the Secretary reporting that .£35 out of the L 75 owing had been received since the annual meeting. The secretary read correspondence from Mr Horn and others re the excessive tote tax, which went to show that the great majority of the clubs were clamouring for relief, and that a substantial reduction was likely. • The question of defining the district for the local races caused a deal of discussion, a motion by Mr Anderson that these be confined to Maniototo, Lake and Vincent Counties and Strath Taieri Riding was carried. An amendment to include Omarama and down as far as Millers Flat was defeated, It was al c « decided to make it a condition that horses must be owned and trained in the district at least two months prior to the races. On the motion of Messrs Mce and Nayior it was derided to start the races at 11 o'clock. Not much alteration was made to the programme. Ttie trots now are— New Year Trot (district) i M miles harness ; Vincent Trotting Stakes 1 mile saddle ; Manuherikia Trot 2 miles saddle; and the Poolburn Trot \)i miles harness. The first race the second day is for district horses and it is to be called the Lochella Cup, 1% miles. The only other alteration i<= that the name of the last race has been changed from the Farewell to the Dunstan Handicap. Mr Spain brought up the question of the minimum weight in the district races, and advocated make it high so that owners could get local riders. He proposed that the minimum be 9.7 in the District Hack and 9 o in the Cup. An amendment by Messrs Harvey and White that it be 8.7 and 8.0 was. however carried, The President thanked the memhers who had come from Clyde and Alexandra and remarked that he thought though that a good meeting augured well for the success of the club. The customary compliment was paid to the chair and the meeting closed.
