ivir Fred Shortlancl, a solicitor, who was practising his profession in Cromwell about a quarter of a century ago, is announced ai a candidate ,(lndedendent) for W akatipu. Mr Angus Cockhrane, a well known resident of the Ophir district, died in Dunedin last week- The deceased who was over four score years of age, was a pioneer miner, but for the past 40 years followed the occupation of a shepherd- He was a single man. A correspondent informs us that the deceased was well educated, and a gentleman in every respect. There passed away in the Dunstan Hospital on Thursday night last, after a long and lingering illness, Mr George Me Donald a young man who came to Clyde some two years ago in search' of health.
