LICENSING.

"The results of the licensing meetings throughout Vincent County and the boroughs of Cromwell and Alexandra are as follow : Matakandi. The annual meeting of the committee for the above district was held in the courthouse, Blacks, on the 4th inst., when here were present Messrs G. Naylor. John Shannon, Christopher Huddleston, and Bryan Flannery Mr Laidlaw, the chairman, having resigned Mr Shannon was elected chairman for the balance of the term. At this stage Mr Flannery asked whether his expenses would be paid for attending, and upon being informed that the committee had no power to vot« any expenses to a member except for travelling, he declined to sit. The inspector's report being favorable, the following applications were granted : Renewals publicans’ licenses - Robert Sheppard. New Town Hrtel, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with permission to have an entrance from his licensed premises to his store, which is under a separate roof, and with exemption from keeping a light over the door of his licensed premises on moonlight nights; Henry Duck, Matakanui Hotel, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with permission to conduct the business of a post office on his licensed premises. Manuherikia. The first meeting of the Manuherikia Licensing Committee was held in the courthouse, Blacks, on June 4 Present —Messrs P. Harrington John M’Knight, W. Leask. C. Gallagher and B Flannery. Mr Harrington was elected chairman for the ensuing three years.

At the annual meeting the abovcnatneci members were present. Mr Flannery and Mr Gallagher brought no the matter of allowance of expenses to members for their attendance. M’lntosh, Blacks Hotel, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Accommodation—Josiah Darling ton, Carriers’ Arms Hotel, fee L 3, licensee to maintain foot-bridge over the Poolburn near his licensed premises ; Rebecca Heyward, Chatto Creek Hotel, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m, at an annual fee of L 5; George Hardie, (da Valley Hotel from 6 a.m to 10 p in., at an annual fee of L 5. Whole sale—John Pitches, for his general store, Blacks.

Dunsian. The annual meeting of the licensing committee for the Dunstan district was held in the courthouse. Clyde on Friday last, when Messrs A. A Oliver, J. U. Cambridge A. Waddell E M Manus aud W Wilson were in attendance. The inspectors’ reports being favorable, all-♦he applications, as follow were granted; Publicans’ licenses Benjamin Naylor, junr.. Dunstan Hotel ; William Allan, Port Phillip Hotel ; James Holt, Vincent County Hotel; Alfred Moore, Junction Hotel ; James Parks, Hartley Arms Hotel ; J. R. Kemp. Cape Broom Hotel Bald Hill Flat, with permission to conduct the business of a post office on his licensed premises ; George Burton Speargrass Flat Hotel. Accommodation license —Henry Partridge Butchers’ Gully Hotel, at an annual fee of L 9 Wholesale license —Benjamin Naylor. The chairman on behalf of the committee. thanked the inspectors, Sergeant Shirley and Constable MTntyre, for the maimer in which they had performed their duties. Alexandra. The annual meeting of the Alexandra Licensing Committee was held in the court house. Alexandra, on the 6th inst. Present Messrs J. Simmonds (chair man) Thomas Auld, Olaf Magnus, James Rivers and William Fraser. The inspector having reported favorably. the following applications for renewals were granted : Publicans’ L. G. Ryan Bendigo Hotel. 6 a.m. to 10 p.m,; Hugh M’Kenzie, Criterion Hotel, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. ; Sarah Cameron Caledonian Hotel, Gam. to 10 p.m. Wholesale— William Theyers general store The chairman complimented the inspector Constable MTntyre for the manner in which he had fulfilled his duties during the time he had been in the district.

Cromwelt. Borough. Publicans’ midnight licenses were granted to James Stuart, Victoria Hotel; David Murley, Globe Hotel ; Thomas Huddlestone, Golden Age Hotel ; Charles G. Mountney, Junction Commercial Hotel. A publican’s ten o’clock license was granted to John Marsh, Bridge Hotel: and wholesale licenses were granted to Robert Henry and Co. and David A. Jolly and Co. H A w E A. The following licenses were granted: Publicans’—Eliza Dowling, Hawea Flat Hotel; Thomas F. Frewen, Occidental Hotel, Hawea. Accommodation—Richard May, Rocky Point Hotel, at L 7 10s The applications of Richard Felton and William Howard had been filed too late, and were adjourned to June 18. In dealing with Mr Mammon’s application the committee resol ”ed to adjourn it also to June 18, in order to afford the applicant an opportunity of disposing of the business meanwhile, as they did not feel disposed to grant a renewal of license to the present occupant. Kawarau. The following were granted: Accommodation—Thomas Trevathan. Albion Hotel, Luggate, at L2O ; Charles Holden, Queensberry Inn, at Lls. Publican‘s—Sara Robertson, Bannockburn Hotel; Charles Angel, Reefers’ Arms Hotel; Francis Woodhouse, Garrick Range Hotel (all of Bannockburn) ; Charlotte Perriam, Welcome Home Hotel, Lowburn ; John Parsons, Albert Town Hotel, Albert Town.
