HOURS OF LABOR.
[PBR PRSSS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, Last night. At a meeting of the Auckland Provincial Agricultural Associatipn to-day the secretary rdad a copy of the Eight Hours' Bill now under consideration, and dealt at length with clause 4, which affected farm laborers. A considerable discussion took place on this clause. It was moved, " That the Association do not support this bill, as it is unworkable." The motion was carried almost unanimously; Mr Rutherford was appointed to draw up a protest on behalf of the Association against the introduction of the bill, and forward it to the district members of Auckland. Thecabmen have registered their union, and will have a meeting with their employers. They desire reduced hours. A gentleman has offered to fit up a room for the men. Dunedin, Last night. At a meeting of employes in the local banks the Shops and Offices Bill was discussed, and eventually a petition, somewhat on the Hues of the Wellington petition, was adopted. The provision with regard to the payment of overtime is described as unworkable and inimical to the interests of the persons it is intended to protect, as the relations of the banks with the officials are not those of day labor. Wellington. Last night. A deputation of chemists' assistants waited on the Central Pharmaceutical Association to-night, and stated that they did not wish to take advantage ot the Shops and Offices Bill, but would be satisfied to work fifty-four hours per week. The Association resolved to approve of fifty-four hours per week and to recommend the Government to make a statutory holiday compuHory on chemistt, who should close at 8 o'clock on fournigh; s pi-r week.
