[per press association.] Woodville, Last night. The delegates who are attending the Dairy Conference at Palmerston were the guests of the North Island Bacon Company to-day. About one hundred accepted an invitation to go over the works, and see the process of curing. The visitors were entertained at afternoon tea. Auckland, Last night. A/ meeting of line fishermen was held to-day to consider the question of trawling in the Hauraki Gulf. After discussion a large number of those present signed a petition to Parliament, stating that the present mode of trawling will in course of time denude the gulf of fish. Nelson. Last night. The residence of Judge Mackay, of the Natjve Land Court, was totally destroyed by fire this evening. Only a few efiects were saved. The family were out for the evening when the fire occurred. Dukedtn, Last night. At a representative meeting to-day it was resolved to form a league to promote, the extension of Catlins railway. Dunedin, Last night. The annual report of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company states that at Burnside and Oamaru 57,759 carcases cf mutton and 115.805 ef lambs have been put through. The company have also slaughtered and frozen 3782 head of cattle, whilst 48,269 crates of rabbits were frozf n and put through for export. A complete plant for utilising offal and tallow has been erected. The balance of profits is £3236, which the directors recommend should be devoted to the payment of a dividend on preference shares and 5 per cent on ordinary shares, absorbing £1267, and depreciation building, plant, etc., £1500, leaving £468 to be carried forward.
