FIRE ON A STEAMER.
Cargo of Sugar Greatly Damaged.
United Press Association. By Electric Telegraph — Copyright. (Received July 27, 10.24 a. m.) Adelaide, This day. A fire broke out on the steamer Balmoral, lying at the wharf with 5000 tons of Java sugar aboard. The outbreak occurred in the hold amidships, where there were a thousand tons of sugar. Some 250 tons were destroyed, while probably a large quantity in the lower hold will have been damaged by water arid flames. The boiling sugar, which spread in all directions, seriously damaged the captain's cabin, the saloon, storerooms, and fittings.
