[PER PBKSS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Last night. The Arbitration Court was engaged today hearing an appeal from the decision of the Registrar of Trade Unions who had declined to register the Wellington section of the Federated Seamans' Union of Australasia, on the ground that the branch of the Federated Seamsns' Union of Hew Zealand was already registered The case had not concluded when the Court adjourned. During the three months ended June 30th, the deposits at the Post-office Savings Banks amounted to £1,186,883, and the withdrawals to £1,068,885. The corresponding figures for the same quarter last year were £1,075,876 and £966,881. During the month of June there were fcweuty deaths from pthisis in the colony, and neven from cancer. A deputation of auctioneers waited upon the Minister for Lands to-day and protested against the Land and Live Stock Auctions Bill. The Minister re : quested that they should put their arguments in writing, but agreed to endeavor to delay the bill for three weeks in order to give the austioneers time to communicate with persons following similar businesses in other parts of tho colony. The bill chiefly aims at suppressing " trotting " at sales. Auckland, Last night. The Te Aroha Borough Council wrote to the Piaka Council asking their cooperation in urging the Assets Realisation Board as to the desirability of cutting up the Waitoa estate, with a view to inducing closer settlement. The Piako Council decided to join any i easonable agitation in the matter. Dunedin, Last night. The Dunedin insurauce clerks have forwarded a\ petition to Parliament, praying that they may be excluded from the operation ot the Shops and Offices Bill. The hearing of the charge against George Robinson, engineer in charge of the work at the Government lime kiln, of having by neglect caused the death of three men. who were buried by a slip, was continued at Palmerston to-day. All the available evidence being taken, the hearing was adjourned till next week, when Mr R. Hay, 0 E., who has been examining the ground, will give evidence. Probably Mr Hursthouse (Chief Engineer of Roads), and Mr Wales (Chief Engineer of Works) will also be called.
