FIRE AT MANAIA.

Several Buildings Destroyed. [per press association.] Haweea, This day. A fire broke out at Manaia this morning. It started in the Bank of New Zealand, and swept away a number of business places,including White's (cabinetmaker), Hall's (draper), Nolan, Tonks aud Co.'s (land office), Stevenson's (baker), Hird's (draper), and the Manaia Hotel. No further particulars are yet to hand, but it is understood the cause is attributed to a defective chimney. Later. As far as can be found out, the insurances »re —George White, ml ; Hall and Co. (amount unknown), in the New Zealand Co. ; Sievenson (amount unknown), in the Northern ; Egmont Drapery Co., £400 in the Magdeburg Co. ; Mrs Tait (hotel), £500 in the Royal on the furniture ; C. N. Raine (bdnk agent), £200 on the furniture in the New Zealand Co. ; N. Eranklin (owner of the Manaia Hotel and the building occupied by the Drapery Co. and btevenson and Nolan), £1500 in the New Zealand Co. ; Davy's building, occupied by Hall and Co. and George White, is insured, but the office and amount are unknown.
