HAVELOCK.

■ There was an imposing ceremonial to day at Ha7elock, the occasion being the raising of the two flags presented to the school by Messrs Bernard and Mason Chambers. The former presented a red ensign, and the latter the New Zf aland flag. The pole, 60 feet high, is of kauri. This has been subscribed for by the residents. The ceremony of hoisting the flag was performed amidst loud cheering by Mrs Chambers, sen., of Te Mata. The ceremonial was under the directionpf Mr Mason Chambers, and Mr Dunn (chairman) and the committee participated, the chairman proposiog a vote of thanks to Mrs and tne Messrs Chambers

Speeches were given by the Rev. A. F. Gardiner, Rev. Jt Shepherd, Rev. A' Whyte, Messrs Chdbibers and others. The school children, under the direction of Mr Holmes, head teacher, and his assistants, sang amongst other pieces, " Unfurl the Banner," "Soldiers of 1 the Queen," and "God Save the Queen." The event will be long remembered in Havelock, both by young and old.
