LIBEL CASE.
"Wellington, This day. At the Supreme Court yesterday the libel case, Beaves v. Anderson, was heard. The damages were fixed at £500. The plaintiff is a butcher residing iv Tory-street, and the defendant is a settler. When proceeding through Tory-street in May last defendant had a dog poisoned, and as the animal avus last seen coming out of tho plaintiffs shop defendant called on him, but could get no satisfaction. Anderson subsequently published a letter and an advertisement in the evening paper, and it was on these that plaintiff claimed damages. The jury gave | a verdict for plaintiff, with £500 damages.
