Yesterday afternoon, as Cobb's coach, from New Plymouth to Opunake, was crossing the Oaonui stream, which is about two miles this sideofOpunake, it was caught by a strong rush of water, "which smothered the coach and washed it and the horses into the sea. The driver, Charles Tilley, escaped, and the passengers had left the coach to go over the river another way. The mails and luggage, however, were all washed to sea. Tbe amount of damage is estimated to be £150.

At the Harbor Board meeting yesterday tbe question was asked when the railway to the barbor works was going to be constructed. The Chairman said that

from a conversation he had had with Major Atkinson he understood that the Board would have to make the line, and then the Government would work it for the Board.
