The information against Waters for unlawfully wagering and gaming was dismissed, on the ground that tbe room in which the totalisator was worked was not a public place. The ninth annual meeting of shareholders in the National Insurance Company was held yesterday. Mr Keith Ramsay, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors, presided. The report recommended a dividend of 10 per cent, making with the interim dividend 20 per cent, for the year, and carrying forward £5919. The report was adopted, and tte usual votes of thanks recorded. Messrs Marshall, Glendinning and Hallenstein were elected directors.

The Mosgiel Woollen Company's report show that the balance on the year's operations available for distribution is £4522. The directors recommend the payment of a 10 per cent, dividend, absorbing £2800, and that the balance of £1722 be carried to the new profit and loss account. The additions during the year amounted to £13,949 13s 2d, and the stock and new materials now in the hands of the company are valued at £21,533.

The northern applications for shares in the Equitable Insurance Association are expected to be in by Saturday, and the allotments will be made early next week. Early on Sunday morning last Mrs Kitto, wife of Mr Kitto, of Dumbarton Rock, cut her throat with a dinner knife. The windpipe was partly cut, but the main artery was not severed. The woman has had occasional fits of insanity, and no doubt was suffering from the effects of one at the time of the rash act.
