September 24.

Telegrams have been received from Candahar reporting that a great battle w»3 fought on Thursday last in the neighborhood ot that city between the armies of the Ameer and of Ayoub Khan, resulting in heavy loss to both sides, but ultimately in the defeat of Ayoub's troops. Of the latter two regiments are said to have deserted, and Ayoub was compelled to abandon his guns and baggage. He has since it is stated, fled with the remnants of his army to Herat, and the citidal of Candahar is now undefended.
