WANGANUI.
August 8. The box containing the silver stolen from the Stormbird was recovered by the police on Saturday night, but the locality where it was found is kept a secret. It is believed tbe box never left the town. The money is safe, and the lid of the box has not even been broken. Three men were arrested yesterday by Detective Sullivan named Henry Williams, William Salmon, and William Green, on the charge of the robbery. They were remanded this morning at tbe R.M. Court for eight days pending, the arrival of the cook of the Stormbird, and of witnesses on board the same steamer. Substantial bail was allowed to Salmon, who is the keeper of a shooting gallery ; Green is his assistant, and Williams is a recent arrival who had been watched by the police throughout. The box weighed ninety-nine pounds, and was seventeen inches by ten.
