At the settling of the Hunt Club Steeplechase the following amounts were paid over :—Butler, £80 ; Lyford, £62 ; Lunn, £60 ; St. James, £19 ; Woodman, £24 ; Lunn, £25 ; total, £270. On Friday night four or five Timaru residents invaded the office of a weekly society paper called the Liberty, proceeded to take bodily satisfaction for some alleged insults which bad appeared in the columns of that journal. The editor and one of the proprietors happened to be in, and suffered considerable injuries before their assailants were satisfied. A good deal of damage were done to the shock in the office during the fray. One of the sufferers is now confined to his bed, the other will scarcely he visible for some days. A Court case will of course be the result.
