THE AUCKLAND PRESBYTERY.

The quarterly meeting of the Presbytery was held yesterday forenoon, at Sfc. Andrew's ! Church. Of the clergy there were present : I The Rev. Thomas Nome, tho Moderator pro t«m. ; Kev. R. F. Macnicol, Kev. D. Bruce, Rev. P. Mason, Rev. Mr. 'fait, Rev. Mr. McCallum.Rev. J. Macky, Rev. Mr. Stewart, and the. Rev. McCrae. The elders iu attendance were : Messrs. Stevenson, Sommervillo, Stewart, Carrutb, and Peacock.

MINUTES. The minutes of last meeting were read by the Clerk, and confirmed.

AT7DIT COMMUTER. Mr. Sommerville, Mr. Stewart, and Mr. ! Macnicol were appointed a commission to examine the books and accounts of the Presbytery, and to report to next meeting.

COLLECTIONS. It appeared that some portions of the amounts collected had not been accounted for ; and it was resolved, on the motion of the Rev. Mr. Bruce, to classify them as debts, and urge their payment.

HOME MISSION. There was considerable discussion on the subject of the failure of some of the clergy to make the custom«ry annual collection, and it was agreed to send reminders to tho various districts.

RKSiaNATXONS. The resignation of tho Rev. Thomas Stewart, who explained" that he was unable to continue his duties in consequence of ill health, was ordered to lie <mi the table ; and that of the Rev. J. Tait, in respect to the duties of the church at Coroinamlel, wai disposed of in a similar manner.

THE WHAtT. An application for (he appointment of a minister to this district was held over pending the consideration at the ensuing meeting of an application from Mr. McCallum, to comply with a call from Wanganui.

NOTICES OF MOTION. I The Rev. Mr. Macnicol gave notice, on behalf of the Rev. Mr. Wallace, that at next meeting ho would move the consideration of I the questions issued by the committee on religion and morals. The same gentleman laid on the table a notice that at next meeting ho would move, " That whereas the frequent running of the railway trains on the Sabbath between Onehunga and Auckland tends greatly to the desecration of that sacred day, the Presbytery deem it thoir duty to exert their influence to the utmost in resisting the evil, and for that purpose they appoint a committee to take the matter into thtir charge, and devise such measures as may bo thought most advisable." On the motion of the Rev. Mr. P. Maion, the steam ferry-boats were iucluded Id the same category.

LBAVE OF ABSENCE. Mr. McCrea applied for four months' leave of absence, whioh was granted on the understanding that a niedioal certificate should be forthcoming.

NEW MEMBER. Mr Thomas Peacock took hia float ai a new member of the Court.

SPECIAL SERVICES. It waa then arranged that Mr. Soniemlle should conduct lervioes at the Thames on the two next Sundays.

NEXT MEETING. It was decided tbat the next meeting of the Presbytery should be hold on that day three weeks. This concluded tho business, and the meeting dispersed.
