ELECTION MATTERS.
The nomination of candidates to represent the East Coast in the General Assembly will take place at the Resident Magistrate's Court-house, Tauranga, at noon on the 4th of February, and the poll on the 16th February. The polling'places are — Magistrate's Courthouse, Tauranga ; Mr. Rogers's store, Maketu j Mr. Kellys auction room, Opotiki. — To-day the nomination of candidates to represent Eden in the General Assembly, takes place at the Toll-house, Newmarket, at noon. Mr. X, J. Creighton and Mr. J. Kerr have been in the field for some time, but we have heard there is a likelihood of Mr. Dignan being also brought forward for the same district. If 80, the race will be a tough one. The nomination of candidates for the representation of Newton in the General Assembly took place yesterday at the Newton A cadeiny. Mr. W. Swanson, Mr. Eastwood, and Mr. F. Cherry were nominated. The fchow of hands -was La fa.vduj? of Mr. Swanson, and fcke other two candidates did not demand a poll, bo Mr, Swanaon was declared duly ' elected.
