CO RO MAN DEL.-MINING MATTERS.

Tjik Flying Cloud has had another crushing at the Nil Despeiandum Battery. Nme tons yielded 17oz. 17dwt. of retorted gold. Tins return of nearly '20/. to the ton is an improvement upon the crushinga hitherto had. From the proximity of this mine to the mill, no expense :s incurred ior carriageof quart/, rendering its working one of c/xsidwrable profit.— The Littlo ilep^rrrc; two men's ground, is attracting conaideiable attention, from the very rioh stone brought to grass every day. This ground is a portion of a cla.ui nauiecl the Perseverance for a long time. A notewoifchy fact in connection with thisgoldtieldia, that the remarkably good finds which have been revealed oc late ate mostly in ground which had been taken up and eventually abandoned from non-sue-cesa. The Little .Republic stotie is of the usual richness, for which the Tokatea range is famous ; and several blocks I have seen are full of the precious metal — The Little-and-Good will occupy the Nil Desperanduin battery next week, to commence on Monday. A good paddock of quartz is to grass. It is likely that about 30 or 40 tons will be sent through the mill. The work in connection with the additional i head of stamps to the Nil Desperandum plaut is proceeding briskly — The Dwarf near the Little ilepublic, have obtained some good prospects ; and operations are pushed ahead with great spirit, and with prospects ot success. — The Flying Scud is auochernew claim of six men's ground near the Harbour View. Late discoveries in. the neighbourhood of this ground leave no room for doubting the value of tui 3 property. On Thursday the ground was surveyed, which will probably prevent further attempts ab encroachment. — The New Zealand battery has been engaged upon a lot; of stuff from the lloyal Sovereigu. The Poverty have also had a small parcel just through. Many claims are delaying sending stone to the batteries for a few days in order to have a crushing as near as possible to Christmas. Several parties of men are out on the ranges in various directions prospecting, and some of them are getting encouraging prospects. Recent discoveries conclusively prove that gold, more or less, exists in all directions of the Coromandel hills, and the prevading search for the precious metal will, in all probability, lead to good finds. No better proof of the auriferous resources of this district need be cited than the quantity of rich specimens which have from time >o time been found in the Waikoromiko Creek. This creek is on the Kennedy-Bay side of the range, and m its working has proved itself to be the richest yet worked in this island. The precious metal which abounded in this creek must have found its way there from the ranges — been washed down by the action of the heavy floods-— and the reefs f'om which such rich stone originally became detached still remain undiscovered. Sooner or later these rich lodes will be struck, and thus enlarge the area of this progressive goldfield. The result of the crushing of 8 tons of the Home ward-Bound at the Perseverancebattery furnished a yield of Boz. 4dwb. of retorted gold.
