We have files of the VolonUt, lLmiiihv>>; and Mall to the 213 th.— Monro Brothers' deed of anungemont is declared by the Court to pa an act ot bankruptcy, because llobmson Brothers' assent was obtained fraudulently. — James Wilkie, jun., was charged, bofoie the Itesident Magistrate at Greymouth, with having committed wilful and corrupt perjury before Judge Ward in theDistiict Couri, on the 27th July, during the hearing of a bankruptcy case, iv which Jamei McCune applied for his discharge. The defendant was committed to the (Supreme Court for trial. Bail was taken, defendant in £100, and two sureties of £50 each. — A collision took place ■between two traps on the Waimea road yesterday evening, one of which was being diivenby My. Luckie, who, together with a boy who was with him, was tin-own out, but fortunately not much injured. The trap, however, was completely smashed, and the horse, which bolted with the shafts attached to him, has uot since been heard of. Wo have files of the Herald and JVras to the 27th.— The 'Rangatira' shipped a number of stock at Waitara for the Auckland' market. — A woman named Gruttennan, alias Jones, has been committed for tiial for illegal concealment of birth at Patea. — Mr. James Hirst has been presented with a testimonial. — The Stoney Kiver Bridge has been completed. — The house of Matene, the native policeman at the Heniii, was broken into, and flour and other goods removed or destroyed to the \ alue of £20. - A number of Wairarapa natives arrived at Kaupokanui, who have come to attend the great meeting atPariaka. Another party, from William King's place up the Waitara, with some from the Upper Whanganui co mtry, are at Urenui, also bound for Pariaka.

WHANGANUI. We have files of the Chronicle and 'Herald to the 25th.— An. inquest has been held on the body of Kichard Curry, who was found drowned in a creek on the Westinore Farm, in about 6 inches of water, lying on his fac<?. As there was no evidence, a verdict of "Found drowned" was returned.— James , Southcombe and Henry Southcombe' have ]-«een brought up at the Resident Magistrate's Courfcfor alleged selling of powder and capa toTopia. -The case was adjourned.—Considerable difficulty and delay have been experienced in sinking the piles for the new -bridge.— Two winners of prizes at an Art Union -in Great Britain received them in such, a darned' state that th?y are comparatively wprthjess, , > , ?

OTAGO. The unemployed fit Ofcago have refused to accept the employment offered them by the l-iovernment, on the ground that the work afforded was not sufficiently remunerative to supply them with "tucker." — It transpires that a man at Queenstown, suspecting Ronnie, got him to drink with him, and extracted from him information which led to his arrest.

CANTERBURY. The unemployed are veiy numerous, and pressure is being brought to bear updii the (lovcrnmeiit to supply work. A correspondent, of the Wellington Post says that 2,000 men are unable to obtain work at reasonable wages. The Frovincial Government promises work on the railways.
