LATEST THAMES NEWS. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Friday, 3.30 p.m.

KUHANUI COMPANY. I Daily of late, and specially to-day, rick finds are the rule in this oompany'a ground. All the drives in the various parts of the ground are showing gild, and some of them are producing very rich specimens. Birry's famous lead or is maintairiiijg its richness, and Hunt's reef is not far behind. ., It is singular that so little work is now going oa in the Deep Load and the Shotover, upon B irry'a reef — a reef which is yielding such profitable results in the Kuranui Company's ground,

ALBURNJA COMPANY. The 18 tons which have' occupied a poi bion of Weaton's machine for the past few days are now retorted, and the result, as I anticipated, is an handsome one, being no le3a than 50oz. 18dwt. retorted gold, %\hich has been lodged in the bank. This stuff ia from thetvro reef a— brown and blue— in the old Alburnia ground before the amalgamation, and the brown stuff has given a superior yield, but the other was also very good.

YOUNG AMERICAN. 110 tons is the quantity of quarbz crushed by the Prince Alfred machine for this company, and the retorting' was finished this morning, with a good yield of close upon l^oz. to the ton, or a tobal of 180oz. of retorted gold. The amount of amalgam taken from the plates during the pasb few days fully justified the manager of the claim, and those in charge of the table?, in saying it would run fully 2oz. to the ton, and it is a very great dissapointment to us in not so doing. - 1 !

HAGUE SMITH'S MACHINE. During the last; week or ten days this battery has been fully employed in crushing several lobs for trial from Hape Creek or its neighbourhood ; and I have great pleasure in reporting that in every instance the yield has been payable and encouraging. For months back, trials from this locality have been constantly made. Almost without exception, the result has been such as would warrant any other creek in sending down large quantities; but here men have been working for a lengthened period, and large stacks of quartz meet your eye in passing up I the cieek, and yet' there seema a want of | vitality about theni; They are afraid of knowing their doom, and hang on ; forgetting the longer the evil day is put off the greater the blow when it does come. The following are 'the claims which have passed lots through' during the week : — Gibralter, S tons, yielded fully loz. to the ton ; tar of the Buller, 5 tons, average loz. per ton ; Excelsior, 6 tons, which, turned out exceedingly well, giving no less than 3£oz. to the tou. The Young May Moon takes possession of the stampers on Monday, and the amount of stuff they intend to put through will be from 30 tons to 40 tons. It is expected to turn out as well as last, which was a very handsome yield.

THE FLYING CLOUD Have got another ,lot of exceedingly rich specimens in the winze whilst sinking during the night shift, and the stuff which is going through at Souters is 'making a remarkablyrich show on the plates.

SONS OF FREEDOM. Like its neighbour the Cloud, this companywas more fortunate last night in securing a good patch of rich stone, both in the level and rise, and for days past every few feet brings them upon something good, and the stone which is now being brought to grass should turn out magnificent at the next crushing. The retorting for the present ci ushing is now going on, but, I am sorry to say, will be too late for despatch by to-day's boat, the res It being about the same as last.

DAUNTLESS AND SINK-TO-BISE. Dui'ing the last few days the manager has taken out some very good specimen from the old Dauntless workings — the stope above where the last rich find toojk place, which is from the new main drive on the Union level. Crushing will be resumed on Monday week at Partingtoa's machine, Vhen J.OO tons will go into mill, and this is bound to yield larger than last, which gave l^oz. to^he ton, and created considerable disappointment to all concerned.

SHAMROCK. Several testa have of late taken place at the Criterion battery from dirt of the surface of this claim, and found to yield gold in payable quantities. It has been decided to start immediately, and take everything before them, and in accordance with this decision they are now sending down the dirt from the old tip, which was thrown out by the -original shareholders, and in this gojd is showing.

DIXON'S No. 1. The specimens of this company are going through at Souters machine as at the Thames Company's plant, where the general stuff is crushed ; they have not a single-stampex box. Some of these stones are very rich, and will swell the total of the general crushing considerably.

BELFAST. This company are now sending intc Tookey's machine a large lot of stuff, and after a few hours' run the amalgam on the plates is beginning to show up well.

I PRIDE OF THE HILLS. About one half the specimens are through the amalgamating barrel, and the thick amalgam is now out, and, 'with the weight of the bucket, it turned the scale at 411b. This is a promising return. (fkom fkiday's "tha^jes advertises.") The Waiotahi Creek : In yesterday's issue we had occasion to,'. 'notice the increased vitality visible in the mines of the Karaka Creek. The same briskness is also perceptible in the Waiotahi Creek. Of those famous claims near the mouth of the gorge — the Manukau, Cure, and, Waiotahi companiesit is unnecessary for .us say more than that the prospects are as good as ever, and in the case of the Cure, in particular, there has been a decided change for the better within the last week, since the large reef of ,the mine has proved itself of a highly auriferous character in the lowest level at which it has yet been opened in the winze. ( There are a number of prospecting shaf bs going down in the neighbourhood of this claim.'' The Nonpareil Company are carrying fa. 'a low level from the creek through the Black Prince ground. The Waitemata reef is still looking well up : the mine has been put into' good working trim, and is now in a very flourishing condition, as is shown by' the rich appearance the crushing going 7on at the Waiotahi battery presents. The Thrieve (Jastle and Hand-in-Hand No. 2 have not as yet turned out anything very rich. The Star of M6unt Smart lately came on to gold in a reef .exposed in a middle working, but no crushing from it has yet taken place. The Bachelors' is yet idle. The West Coast Company is about sending a fresh parcel to the, mill, and the Golden Age had a good crushing, a short time ago. At the Criterion battery, a number of trial crushings from different claims -near have taken place : the results have been generally payable. The Shamrock keeps JO head of stampers at the Criterion battery employed. We occasionI ally hear of erushings' fr,om the Wade and Ruby; they are generally rich. The Southern Industry has been taken tip under miners' rights, and the owners are sinking a shaft for j the Bachelors' leader.
