Highway Bates. — In the case of Bowen v. Johnston, for ratea alleged to be due to the Matakana Highway Board, the Magisti'ate gave judgmenet. He thought the claim was not made out, and he must therefore dismiss the case with coats. [Before W. C. Daldy and J. P. Dargaville, Esqs., J.P.s.] DuuNKENNESsj. — John Hill was fined ss. and costs, or to be imprisoned 24 hours. Drtjkk and DisokderTjY. — Thomas Brown was fined 20a. and costs, or to be imprisoned 48 hours. Obscene Language. — Thomas Brown, for using obscene language in Freeman's Bay, was fined 40s. and costa, or to be imprisoned seven days. Alleged False Pretences. — Peter Storrier McKenzie (on bail) was charged with obtaining by false pretences, from Andrew Eooney, a sum of money. — Mr. MacOormick appeared for the prosecution, and Mr. J. T. Keetley for the defence.— Mr. MacCormick stated that it had been agreed between the prosecutor and the defendant to withdraw the charge ; and he a&ked the Bench to sanction this arrange* ment.— The case was dismissed.
