LEASING OF LANDS AT MAKETU.
On the 27th May wo printed an extracb from a private lottor rec«ir<:d from Tauranga, containing a copy of the notice issued by the chief Fox warning persona against leasing or purchasing lands at Maketu and places enumerated in th~ neighbourhood of chat settlement. Other native chiefs and landowners now appear to have taken alarm at the notice, and have forwarded to us, for insertion in the Weekly N*wm, a list of surveyed lands at Maketu, open for lease,, comprised in eiuht block.!, with names of tribes and ohiefs to whom the land belong. The advertisement also states—" We have more land for lease, and we wish you ( Europeans) to come quickly — any of you that want runt."
