MELBOURNE.

Id the import markets to-day a fair amount of business has been transacted, but as all speculative feeling is dormant, transactions have been confined to supplying trade requirements in almost allin•tances. In breadstuffs, we hear of trade parcels of Victorian flour beine quitted at up to £12 ss, while Tasmanian flour, wire-dressed, w«B sold by auction at £11 ss. A decidedly firmer feeling is evinced in candles, as much as ll|d having been realised for 250 boxes De Koubaix's. A line of 1,000 boxes Palmatine met with a purchaser, under the hammer, at 10? d. Currants have moved off very freely at 4d to4ld 450 boxes and 500 drums of Sultana raisins were quitted at 7d to 7£d j a parcel of Elerne raisins was disposed of privately at s*d in bond. About a thousand bags of Mauritius damaged sugar wsre quitted, according to condition, at satisfactory prices. Brown sugars have been sold privately at £28; some 4,800 bag* are advertised for sale to-morrow, in addition to the Bourbon sugar which will be offered. We understand that the 'Sea Shell,' which arrived here yesterday from Mauritius, is ordered on, with her entire cargo of sugar, to Sydney. There is a considerable inquiry for fine teas, as well as medium qualities of congous. 200 half-chests of medium were quitted at Is 7d, and we hear that, besides several sales of fine teas pending, one chop, equal to lOOohests, ex 'Matador,' has changed hands. About 280 half-chests of low teas were quitted at 6d, and holders ask 6£d for •imilar qualities. The balance of the « Hans's new teas will be offered to-morrow, and the damaged portion of the 'Albert JurssV fine teas are advertised for sale on Friday. In tobacsoes, we note an increasing demand for fine light tobacco—aromatics : aline of pounds, half-pounds, and fancies, about a hundred packages in all, has been placed at prices ranging from Is 6d upwards. Twists are m much better favour, owing to the small quantity of this description coming forward. There are no sales to report, in consequence of the stiffness of holders. Oilmen's stores fare moved off very freely. At auction some 2,000 cases were got rid off, including a line of 1,000 boxes of oysters, disposed of at 7s 3d. Privately, a shipment of 150 cases sardines, halves and quarters, were quitted at 8s 6d and 5s 3d respectively. Little has transpired in regard to liquids. We hear, however, of the sale of a parcel of 100 hogsheads of Bass's No. 4 ale at a slight margin on late quotations. Sales of Martell's dark brandy are mentioned at 6s U.- Argus, November 13.
