The stock and share market has been Bteady during the week, with a good demand for Bank •took, in which a good amount of business wiw done. Joint Stocks were sold early in the week at 111 and Hi, but have since changed hands at 11. Unions were quitted at late rates. Citys remain firm at 10£. New Zealands, ex dividend, brought 175 »nd 174. . , .. , . , The demand for tallow at public sales held to-day was hardly 10 active as at last week*, and a decline of from 10» to 20s per ton was submitted to. Mutton tallow brought from £34 10s to £39 10b ; good beef, £33 10s to £34 )2i 6d; second quality and inferior, £32 5i to £33 ss. Hidei went off very briskly, at fully-sustained racei. Extra weights brought as high as 19s 6d each ; fresh heavy, 13s 6d to 15s 3d j second heavy, 10s 6d to 13s ; light and inferior, 3s 9d to 10s ; hone hidei, 8s ; calfskins, 3s to ss; yearlings, 5s to 7s 6d ; hair, 6d ; harness leather, lOjd ; kip, 17d. Stubbs and Co. sold, at Aiger's Bond, today, the bulk of the damaged portion of the • MeteorV cargo of teas, comprising 392 packages. In commercial affaiw the most notioeable feature in connection with this market consequent upon the mail news has been a little excitement in breadstuffs. Telegrams from Adelaide houses to their scents here lead to the inference that a considerable increase in prices will take place. A movement m that direction has already taken place, and .small lalei of tilk-dreswd flour hare been made at £13 10s, net, and £14 terms, and wheat at 6s. The latter rate would not be accepted by lome holders for a parcel of any size. Candles have been dealt in at lljd to Hid. Coffee continues very firm; sales of Pl*°tationhavebeenmadeatlO^d. Manila iaheldforBd, and fine Java at 83d, In dried fruits, a better feeling i* manifest. A fair business has been done in currants at 4d for prime, and holders are now asking a shade higher. Muscatels continue scarce, andtrm »t 10d: sultanas, 8d to 9d ; Eleme and Valencia, 6d to 7d. Dried apples are selling at about lOd f or new shipments. Fish of all descriptions are dull of sale ,t unremunerative rates. Dried ling, at auction, brought only 3d ; lib. salmon, 13s 9d ; quarter sardinei, 5s 2d to 5s 3d. Recent arrivals <of kerosine have nearly all changed hands at 2s 2d to 2s 3d, and pricei are now a trifle firmer; but owing to heavy stocks in Melbourne, and the low rates ruling there, no material improvement can be expected. Castor oil is almost out of stock, and prices are nominal. Linseed is dull of sale. Oilmen*! stores continue to be forced off at auction atlow rates, but privately are held for an advance ; a few articles, of which atopks are light, command very full priceß. Liquors have an improving tendency ; bulk ale continues saleable at last week's rates ; bottled, of leading brands, commands 9a to 10s Sd ; porter, in. wood and .glass, is doll, and pricea without change. 3s 8d are ruling rates. Gin and geneva of large contents are very Ecarce, and prices quite nominal. Whiskey, ia wood, oommands from 4s to 5s ; in glass, lla to 11b 6d. The sugar market ia quiet, and the trade well supplied ; the moat noticeable feature during the week was the sale of a shipment of Tahitian, which brought £33 10s to £33 153 at auction. Teas are in good trade demand, especially ration sorts, which have been dealt in at late quotations. The damaged portion of the 'Meteors' teas were also sold, and brought very full prices, considering quality and terms. In tobaccos there have been sales of prime new twist at about 15d, and several parcels of damaged at nominal rates. — jSydney Morning Herald, November 16. ' Messrs. R. F. Stubbs and Co. disposed of at auction, to-day, the shipment of Tahitian sugar, which comprised 100 barrels very bright counter sorts, at £33 10s to £33 15s per ton. Various parcels of oilmen's stores were quitted at sustained rates. Bottled fruits, 9s 8d ; jams, 8s 9d ; pickles, 7s ; jar salt, 6s 3d ; vermicelli, 8d j castor oil, pints, 10s 6d; sauces, 6s to 7s 3d, pints ; Cheddar cheese, lid j soda crystals, £10 j dried ling, in drums, 3d j lib. lalmon, 13s 9d ; Marzetti's pints stout, 4s 6d. The same firm also sold, in the afternoon, the damaged portion of the ' Alfred the Second's' cargo of wheat, at 4s 5d net cash.— lbid., November 14.
