AUCKLAND HUNT CLUB.
The members of the Auckland Hunt Club had a most successful meet yesterday afternoon at St. John'i College. Mr. Benn, 67ih Regiment, Mr. Tredenniok, 67th Regiment, Mr. Gibson, Wanganui, Mr. Atkyns, and Mr. Dunnetb were the hounds, Mr, Mat ravers, whip ; and Major Baker, master. The run was over a fine opeu hunting country, through the properties of Mr. Taylor, Mr. Howard, Mr. Maclean, and Mr. Robert Graham, extending for nearly ten miles and crossing every variety of fence — post-and-rail, quicksets, stone walls, banks, and double ditches. Commencing at St. John's College, the scent led away through the paddocks below Mr. Maclean's, in the direction of the Tamaki, crossing the lane into Mr. Taylors property, and again into the road near Mr. Taylors house, over a bank and double ditch, where one or two gentlemen unluckily came to grief. The scent lay down the lane, for some distance, and then doubled back and crossed into Mr. Howard's paddocks, near thair gentleman's residence. From Mr. Howard's house the scent led back to Mr. Maclean's, Tn the direction of the college, where the road was again crossed. The scent, now lying breast-high, ran parallel with the Remuera road until reaching Mr. Graham's house, when it turned towards the Otahuhu road, and, negotiating some of the fences of -the late steeple chase, crossed the Ellerslie racecourse, and finished over the stone bask into the lane near the Grand Stand. There were several rather severe falls during the run. A large concourse of people assembled at the meet, among whom we r observed Mr. and the Misses Maclean and Miss Haultain, Mrs. Pitt, Major and Mrs. Heaphy, Mr. and Mrs. Shackleton and Mrs. Webb, Mrs. , Dawson, Captain and Mrs. Matchell, Captain and' Mrs. Brett, Mrs. ' MatraVers, Mws Balneayis, Miss Tighe, Miss Nathan, Miss Browning, 1 &c. From the nature' of ' the ground chosen; the visitors were enabled -to view almost^the whole of the country crossed. The members of the Hunt desire most cordially to thank Messrs. B. Maclean, Taylor, Howard, and R. Graham for having so kindly permitted them again to cross their respective properties, and for the warm and 'sporting manner in which those gentlemen have invariably, encouraged the Hunt in this province. They also tfe'el much indebted to Mr. Maclean, Mr. Matravers, and Mr. Atkyns for laying the paper, and giving them one of the best runs enjoyed this season.
