LATER FROM AUSTRALIA AND THE SOUTH.

The ' Storm Bird ' arrived in the Manukau yesterday morning, and by her we have Sydney papers to the 25th, and Otago papers to the 26th. It will be seen from, the Australian telegrams, which will be found elsewhere, that tho screw steamer 'Armenian,' for this port with the 68th Begfc. on board, put in to Adelaide on the 18th ult., for coal and repairs. The Sydney Umpire's telegram says she would probably be detained there for ten days ; so that allowing for that detention she is now very nearly due. The Sydney Mornwg Herald, of the 19th mstaut, gives the following additional particulars of her mishap: — "Messrs. B. Towns and Co. received a telegram last evening, from Captain Mitchell, of the steam transport ' Armenian,' -\\ ith troops from Eaugoon to New Zealand, announcing his having to put into Port Adelaide, owing to carrying away his mizen-masts, fore and main topgallant masts, and main topsail yard in a severe gale. The necessary steps have been taken to refit and proceed v ith the troops, who are reported in good health and spirits, notwithstanding the accident which has delayed them." The following announcing the departure of the remainder of the 43rd aud GBth Eegts. is from the Calcutta Englishman, of the Bth November : — " The ship ' Light Brigade,' engaged for the conveyance to New Zealand of the remainder of her Majesty's <J3rd and 68th "Regiments from Calcutta and Rangoon, will leave Calcutta for Uangoon this day. She takes from Calcutta four officers, forty-eight men, ten women, and twenty-one children , and from Eaugoon about nine officers, tno hnndred 7iien, forty women, and eightyfour children." Pressure upon our space prevents us from giving the Southern news, but there is nothing in it of immediate or special importance.
