THE WAIKATO HEADS.
Many of our readers are no doubt aware of the' fact that some extensive works are now being carried on by ihe Government at the Waikato Heads. Store-houses are being built, sites are being cleaved for others, preparations are being made for building a wharf, stockades are being erected, and the new river steamboat, brought over from Sydney in sections, is m the course of being put together. The place consequently has a bus3 T appearance, there being a large number of men employed in their different occupations. The works are all under the superintendence of Captain Simpson. They have been visited recently by the hon the War Minister, and we understand they are progressing satisfactorily. On Monday last the men commenced the rivettmg of the new river steamer, which will be very strongly bnilt; and before a month or two have passed over, she will probably be plying on the Waikato.
