Trouble In Malaya
NEW YOKE, October 25. British Indian troops were called out tn disperse demonstrations organized in all the to-ns and villages of the rich tin producing State of Perak last weekend, state news agency correspondents in Singapore, quoting delayed official reports. Men paraded with the slogans: "We ’Want Work.” “We Want Rico.” Troo’ • at Sungeisiput fired on a large crowd which refused to disperse. One man was killed and several wounded. Demonstrators at the Paritbuntar seized a British civil affairs officer as a hostage and when Indian troops, who were forbidden to use their arms, attempted to rescue him the.? were beaten up. Later official reports state that three persons were killed and four wounded when troops fired on a demonstrating crowd nt Taiping. The demonstration followed a refusal by the authorities to release 14 jM'ople who were arrested after earlier demonstrations.
