HEALTH STAMPS
Record First Week Sales
Though the health stamp sales throughout New Zealand during the first week of last year’s campaign established a record, this year’s figures for the corresponding period were even better, stated, the Post-master-General, Mr. Webb, yesterday. “The value of the 1944 health stamps sold at the main district and suburban offices for the first week,” said the Minister, “reached the final total of £7206, which is £407 better than. last year’s total of £6799. Particularly creditable are the results at Palmerston North, Auckland and Oama.ru, where the previous records have been exceeded by 76 per cent., 61 per cent, and 56 per cent, respectively, and the sales at a number of other chief post offices have improved by 30 per cent, or more. On the other hand, Dunedin, Wanganui, Napier and Christchurch failed to reach last year’s totals by 57 per cent.; 62 per cent., 37 per cent, and 20 per cent, respectively. “The overseas sales through the stamps branch of the. General Post Office, during the first week of the 1944 campaign, show a decline of. approximately 10 per cent, compared with last year’s figures, but orders are still coming to hand.”
