Senior Strength Of Clubs Further Reduced ."Tho past year, in spite of so many difficulties, can without hesitation be recorded as a year of definite progress aud of excellent achievements in all direcUons," says tlie report to be presented at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Surf life Saving Association in Wellington on October 21. "The continuance' of the war has helped to reduce still further tho senior strength of our clubs, but this loss in many cases has been offset by tlie enrolment of women and junior members. . “The women's clubs and women's section of clubs are doing a great work, and the patrolling of the many beaches is in their capable hands. YVith the remaining senior members and junior members, every effort is made where at all possible to ensure the presence of beach patrols at weekends and holiday periods." The Lours of patrol, as shown by the report, totalled 39,328, an increase of 961 hours over tho previous year’s figures. Surf life-saving medallions issued during the year totalled 119, as follows Wellington, 29; Auckland, 28; Otago, 28; Canterbury, 16; Taranaki, 14; individual clubs, 4. Thirteen instructors’ certificates were issued, four in Wellington, three each in Taranaki and Otago, two in Auckland, and one in Canterbury.
