EIGHTH ARMY PUSH
Weakening Resistance In Italy
LONDON, August 24. British and Indian troops of the Eighth Army, taking advantage of weaker German resistance in the Upper Arno Valley have made a considerable advance on both sides of the valley.
“Continuing their operations to follow up the enemy on the Adriatic sector, Polish and Italian troops of the Eighth Army encountered strong enemy rearguard resistance on the high ground just south of the Metauro River, between Cerasa and Monte Maggiore,” said yesterday's Allied Communique from Italy. “All this resistance has now weakened, and our patrols have reached tbe south bank of the river at many places up to 12 miles from the sea.”
