CAMPAIGN IN BURMA
August 20. The enemy positions astride the Tiddim Road, a mile north of the Burma frontier, which are under heavy assault, have been bv-passed hy Fourteenth Army troops. In wide outflanking movements, British and Indian regiments have crossed the border and are now one mile inside Burma. ~ In the Kabaw Valley, on the TamuSittaung track, the Japanese have been driven from their positions 19 miles cast of Tamu. Further north, our troops are in contact with the enemy on a secondary track to the Chindwin. The Chinese have captured Laotnngpo, a strongly-fortified bill, position southeastward of Lungling. completing their oceunation of the necessary positions for attacking Lungling. says a Chungking communique. American Liberators bombed enemy concentrations north-westward of Hongyang They bombed Mniishih and sank a large freighter in the South China Sea. Mustangs damiisred several steamers and barges in tlie Tungting Lake area, probably sank a large steamer anchored in tlie Hengvang River, and started several tiros in ilongyiuig. , Warhawks strafed the railway yards at Sienniiig, installations at Lciyaug, storage areas at Changsha, and bridges at Chuchow.
