DEFENDED DIVORCE
Husband’s Petition Fails A petition by George Henry Hunt for a divorce from his wife, Amy Hunt, on the ground of adultery was dismissed by Mr. Justice Johnston in the Supreme Court, Wellington, yesterday. Petitioner, a driver for the Wellington Harbour Board, said that his wife was a member of the Commonwealth Covenant Church. Lower Hutt, whose members practised open confessions. ’ln March, 1941, she confessed that she had committed adultery, and in the following month made a second confession to this effect. Respondent in evidence said she had only made one confession, in November, 1940, but she had previously made several confessions in church. Her husband had been very nice and kind about it aud freely forgave her. He admitted he had not been a good husband, but said he simply could not confess he so bad. He admitted he had committed adultery and asked to be given another chance, but she told him she could not have anything more to do with him till he had repented. . ~ In dismissing the petition, his Honour said that it was clear that petitioner had condoned his wife’s confession, if confession there had been, as' it was ,probable that this might have been the outcome of her emotional condition.
