EDUCATION BOARD
Conduct Of Meetings Criticized
The conduct of meetings of the Wellington Education Board came under discussion at last night’s meeting ot the Wellington School Committees and Educational Association, when it had before it a copy of a letter sent by the Ngaio School Committee to the Ijoaru drawing attention to the fact taut there was a by-election for a city member pending and asking that consideration be given to devoting more of the time ot the board’s meetings to matters ot eclnCa Mrs. L. A. Allan, a member of the Ngaio committee, said that they were disturbed to open their newspapers alter a board meeting and find a column devoted to a report about its squabbles. Mr L. J. McDonald moved: “That tins association is in entire aceord with the Ngaio School Committee in its desire that the Kducatiou Board should devote the whole of its time to consideration ot matters concerned with education and the welfare of the schools, to the exclusion of petty issues unrelated to cduca tional purpose.” . The motion was seconded by Mr. 1. K. Moody, who later stated that he took the letter as an attack on himself and one or two other members of the board. So far as he was concerned, he was determined to continue freely and openly to express bis. views. Mrs. Allan said that the Ngaio committee had expressly excluded the word petty. It had no desire to pass J’udKment on any member of the board. What it objected to was the prominence it received in the Press. The motion was carried by 13 votes to 6.
