R.A.F. COMMANDANT AT MALTA
RUGBY, February 11. . Acting Air Vice-Marshal Archibald Herbert Wann has been appointed air officer commanding the R.A.F. at Malta in succession to (Air Marshal Sir Keith Park. Air Vice-Marshal Wann was born in 1805, and began his career in the Navy. He was an airship pioneer, and commanded the airships R 36 and R 33. He was the only man who escaped from the forepart when the latter airship broke its back and crashed in flames over the Humber in 1921. He was so severely injured that he was classed as permanently unfit for flying, but he has qualified as a Spitfire pilot since IfM-l.
