Dominion Special Service. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report that the second of the series of spring cattle fairs was held at Dannevirke on Thursday, when 500 cattle and 1200 sheep were offered. The attendance of the public was goo 3 and included several outside buyers. Brokers reported a good clearance at satisfactory prices. Fat sheep: Mostly hoggets were penned, together with a few heavy ewes. Hoggets were in strong demand, the best pens making 28/- to 32/6, lightweights 23/-; ewes, very prime 28/t<> 30/-, lightweights 25/-. Store sheep: The entry comprised nearly all hoggets. The quality was good and- with competition from outside buyers prices firmed 1/6 to 2/- a head. Range: Best wether hoggets 22/3 to 25/9, medium lines 16/6 to 17/6; Down cross, 18/6; good ewe hoggets 28/- to 30/-, others 26/-. Store cattle: The entry for this fair was much smaller than usual and the quality was mixed. Buyers were present from Manawatu and bld with confidence for bullocks. The small cattle were mostly light in condition and did not create the competition expected. Range: Good four-year bullocks £ll/6/- to £ll/10/-, small £9 12/6 to £lO/10/-; yearling P.A. steers £5 to £6/2/-, small £4; yearling P.A. heifers £3/10/-; P.A. cows, light condition, £5. Beef: Only three, pens were yarded and bidding was keen. Range: Lightweight cows, £B/10/- to £9; lightweight bullocks, £lO. Dairy cattle: A few springers sold readily. Range: Good class Jerseys at the drop, £9; small heifers, £5/12/6.
