Bates—Brotherstone

Many friends gathered at the Presbyterian Church, Woodville, on the afternoon of August 28 for the wedding of Jean Annie Brotherstone, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Brotherstone, Woodville, and John Bathurst Bates, R.N.Z. A.F., Christchurch. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. 11. Nickolas. The bride, who was escorted into the church by Piper It. Burns, Ballance, Pahiatua, and was given away by her father, chose a white gown of silver brocade with a gored train. She carried a bouquet of freesias and small begonias, mixed, with maidenhair fern, and a long embroidered veil held in place by a topknot of flowers, completed her ensemble. Miss M. Brotherstone and Miss R. Tinker were bridesmaids, wearing sky blue velvet dresses and hats to match. They carried bouquets of cyclamen and maidenhair fern. The duties of best man were carried ou'tiby Air. L. West, Christchurch, the groomsman being Air. T. Paullin, Christchurch. Airs. W. Galbraith was at the organ and during the signing of the register Airs. W. Hanlon sang. The church was beautifully decorated with spring flowers by Airs. Galbraith, A reception was held in the Masonic Hotel. Air. and Airs. Brotherstone received the guests, Airs. Brotherstone wearing a dove grey dress with a black fur stole and shoulder-spray of cyclamen and toning accessories. Guests later adjourned to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Brotherstone to view the many presents received by the bride and bridegroom. When Air. and Airs. Bates left to spend their honeymoon in Auckland the bride wore a tailored grey costume with black accessories.
