NEW DISCUSSION ON FAR EAST

Empire And U.S.A. In Conference REPORT BY HULL Chinese And Dutch Represented (British Official Wireless.) (Received November 23, 8 40 p.m.) RUGBY, November 22. British, Australian and Netherland diplomats, including Lord Halifax, the British Ambassador, met Mr. Cordell Hull, the American Secretary for State, this morning to discuss the Far Eastern situation, according to an agency message from Washington. It is presumed that they were acquainted with the trend of the United States-Japanese talks now taking place in Washington. While they had been kept informed of the events, this was the first occasion on which Mr. Hull had conferred with them all together. Mr. Hull said that the meeting was purely' for the exchange of information, and he indicated that no official announcement would be made.

Agency messages from Washington state that the meeting was later joined by a representative of the Chinese Government.

Lord Halifax is reported to have stated at the' close of the conference: “The representatives of our countries were in complete agreement with Mr, Hull’s position in his discussions with the Japanese envoys now in Washington.”

A State Department spokesman said the discussions had concerned all phases of the international situation in which any of the countries represented were interested, but there had been no occasion to reach any conclusions this time. He announced that Mr. Hull hoped to see the Japanese envoys, Mr. Kurusu and Admiral Nomura, later this evening.
