ST. MARY’S OLD GIRLS

Full Programme At Annual

Reunion

The annual reunion of St. Mary’s Old Girls’ Association was held in Wellington recently. It had been arranged to hold a basketball and tennis tournament on the Saturday afternoon but because of the weather these events were played the next day, in brilliant sunshine, and resulted in a win for the old girls’ team in both games. A silver cup had been presented for basketball by Miss Peggy O’Connor, and one for tennis by the Misses Fanning and O’Regan. It is hoped to play for these annually, and great interest was shown in these first results. •

On Saturday night the annual dinner was held at the Empire Hotel, when more than 60 members were present. Mrs. Logan, president, received the guests and welcomed members from Marlborough, Wanganui and Stratford. The toast of “The School” was proposed by Mrs. G. Gibbs, who entertained her listeners with some interesting reminiscences of the earliest days of St. Mary’s, as her mother and mother-in-law were among the first'pupils. Miss Kathleen Jansen replied to the toast. After dinner, guests adjourned to the lounge, for a short entertaining programme. This was provided by Miss Rosaleen ‘Pound, vocalist, Miss Gladys Rainbow, pianiste, and Miss Essie Drummond, elocutionist. Ou Sunday afternoon Reverend Mother Carmel and the Sisters provided a delightful afternoon tea, and the Reverend Mother presented the cups, the one for tenuis to Miss Margaret Madden, representing the old girls’ tennis team, and the other to Miss Veronica O’Hanlon, representing the old girls’ basketball team.

Among the visiting nuns were Sisters M. Claver and M. Alphonse who received a warm welcome from old pupils, and a successful weekend was concluded with Benediction in the convent chapel, the Rt. Rev. Monsignor T. F. Connolly officiating.
