DEMONSTRATION OF DANCING
Invitation Afternoon For Parents And Friends
An invitation afternoon for parents and friends was given by Miss Margaret McLay on Saturday, when pupils gave a dance demonstration. The Masonic Hall was crowded. Music for the dances was chosen from the works of many classical composers and was played by Miss Ormi Reid. The entertainment began with the very small children,; in white frilled frocks with blue sashes, doing class steps and little solos. The advanced pupils performed ports de bras with graceful technical arm movements. A traditional Spanish number, “Jota Aragonesa,” was danced with castanet accompaniment to the music. Outstanding solos were given by Margaret Radford, technical pas seul, wearing a ballet frock with flowers and blue and silver, and Rosemary Miller, who wore a traditional length ballet frock and wreath and yellow flowers. She danced to music from the ballet, “Swan Lake.”
Several ballet scenes and stories were presented. “Selfish Goblins” was one and “Toy Shop” another, where the shopkeeper made her dolls dance to show customers. The ballet, “Dairy Tale,” opened with maids of waiting, in ballet frocks and silver headdresses. The princess wore a pale pink ballet frock and the witch was in black. The prince’s suit was of black and pink. The ballet concluded with a pas de deux by prince and princess. Merrie men in brown and green and maidens in yellow and scarlet, danced in “Merrie Men.”
