OUTINGS FOR SEAMEN

British Sailors’ Society

The members of the British Sailors’ Society, Wellington, held an outing for the men of overseas ships in port on Saturday. A bus tour included beauty spots in the Hutt Valley and a stop at Jubilee Park, returning to the society’s rooms for tea, which was prepared by the girls of the Chart and Compass Club. Yesterday there was a good attendance of seamen, as well as soldiers and members of the air force. Tea was followed by an. evening service conducted -by Mr. C. T. J. Jeffreys, and a talk was given by Mr. Gordon Blair. Musical items were given, and supper was served.

Much interest was aroused -by the announcement of a showing of British naval films on Thursday, with the idea of demonstrating to the public the work of the Mercantile Marine. The films have been generously lent for the occasion by Sir Harry Batterbee and the Government Tourist Department.
