BASKETBALL

Women’s Competitions In Wellington

Every- team turned up for the women’s basketball competition games in Wellington on Saturday, and there were fifty matches, so that all available courts were used to capacity. A good deal of interest always attaches to the game between Kia-ora and W.E.0.G., as for many years they have been the leading teams in lhe senior grade. Both teams have "many changes; W.E.O.G. specially have a very young team, some having onjy Jett school this year. The game was interesting, but not spectacular, and the Kia-ora centrp being more experienced, wgre able to feed their forwards to win comfortably. Aspro continues to find their feet in this grade, and defeated- Island Bay after a great game by one goal. St. Joseph’s were unlucky to lose against Melrose, after leading by five goals with only five minutes to go. St. Joseph’s, who were regraded third grade two years ago, are now with a young team trying their fortunes again in senior B, and playing very well, too. Y.W.C.A. returned fo form in their game against W.E.0.G., winning with a little to spare.

There was sonie bright basketball in the lower grades, despite the wind, which io usually a feature at Hatailai courts. The new Air Ilgadquartere; club have some very useful girls with the ball, and with further practice will be bard to beat. All the games in these grades were keenly contested, and there were no runaway victories. Results:—
