VICTORY QUEEN CARNIVAL

PARTY FOR SIX QUEENS COMMERCE PRINCESS'S EFFORT With the splendid idea of getting together all the queens in the Victory Queen Carnival Miss Nola Tingey, the wholesalers’ princess supporting the Commerce Queen, held an afternoon party at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Tingey, Thompson Street, Wellington, yesterday, at which the six queens and Miss Tingey’s coprincesses were guests of honour. The party was prompted by the idea of encouraging the spirit of unity in the cause of the carnival, and an inspiring speech was made during the afternoon by Mr. Ivan Menzies, of the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company. Mr. Menzies, who was accompanied by several of the men members of his company, also delighted everybody by singing some of his inimitable songs from the operas, accompanied by Mr. Max Oldaker at the piano. The six queens, Misses Patricia Luckie, Paddy Gibbons, Mrs. E. T. W. Love, Mrs. Ben Fuller, and Sister Molly Mahoney, and Miss Joan Young, with the three commerce princesses, Misses Tingey, Marcells and Wenda Amosa, were honoured by the drinking of toasts. Speeches were made by Mr. J. Abel, Dominion organizer of the patriotic appeal and chairman of the Commerce Queen Executive, and Mr. and Mrs. Tingey. Mr. A. Ramsay, organizer for the Commerce Queen, moved a vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Tingey for their hospitality. The women’s committee working on behalf of the commence queen was responsible for assisting Mrs. Tingey and Miss Tingey to entertain their guests. The house was very beautifully decorated with choice flowers and a delicious savoury afternoon tea was served. As the party was entirely private, guests were not asked to donate to the funds, but opportunity was offered them to do this by means of a number of raffles, to which they readily and generously responded. Among tho gqeste were the parents of some of the queens and princesses, and others actively associated with the carnival. They included the deputy-mayor of Wellington, Mr. Martin Luckie, and Mrs. Luckid, Mrs.-'J. G. Young, Mrs. Marcella, Mrs. H. Anioe. Mrs. Vincent Ward, Miss I. Tingey, Mrs. J. Abel, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Morgan, Mrs. Don. Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Ramsay, Mr. and Mrs. George Harrison, Mrs. D. Carr, Mrs. Lennon, Mrs. P. Hilkie, Mrs. H. E. Avery, Mrs. G. P. H.
