Prices which were below schedule were .secured for fat cattle at today's sale, at Stortl'ord Lodge. There was a big yarding of 320 head. Some cow beef was as cheap as 22/- a hundred pounds. Ar. the two previous sales small yardiugs lose by more than £2 a head, with the result tliat leading butchers bought heavily out of rhe paddock, and today they were out selling. Quality pens were well in excess ol requirements. cows making up a big percentage. Very little ox beef was oil nil el. tile main pen being small light bullocks. Heavy and solidly-finished sorts range.i from £7/18/6 to £S/11/-. Lower prices also ruled for store cattle with the exception of breeding cows with calves at foot, fat eows being most seriously affected. Breeding cows in good condition with calves at foot made £7 to £7/3/-, others in light order making £3 Lambs generally were 1/- a head cheaper than at Waipukurau yesterday. _ About 7000 head were yarded. Very forward shorn w.f. lambs sold at 18/6. others fairly grown but lighter 15/9, and pens much smaller grown and in hard condition 10/6. Woolly lambs in good order made 19/1, other ;rood pens 17/6 to 18/6, medium grown 15/- to 16/-, and small to 13/-. Shorn ewe lambs were in very light order to make 12/9. Breeding-ewes were again hard to quit. The first live-year-olds running with S.D. rams offered for the season were passed at 15/-. and other live-year-olds made 12/to' 14/6. Fair-mouthed six-year-olds made 10/9, and aged and in light store order 5/- to 7/5. The first entry of the season of shorn Down cross lambs realized 19/1. Very forward wethers were passed ar 20 6. Foiir-tootli ewes bred from last season brought 23/6. Values for fat ewes dropped tram 3/- .0 4/- a head, few pons being sold at auction. Values ranged to 11/1. with extra good entries making to 13/1. Prime Down cross two-tooths at 16/- were abom (>/- below works price. Heavy wethers made to 22/4. Prices for lambs were unaltered, heavy pens making 26/4 amt others L/10 to 23/10.
