MANUFACTURE OF SALT
Licensing Of Industry The manufacture of salt for sale is brought under the Industrial Efficiency Act, 193 G, by a notice published in this week’s Gazette. The Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr. Sullivan, explained last night that this step had been taken ou the recommendation of the Bureau of Industry, and after consideration by the Government to ensure that the interests of any firm undertaking the manufacture of salt iu New Zealand were adequately safeguarded. The industry had possibilities of becoming a very important one in the Dominion, and it was thought that the protection of licensing would afford added encouragement to anyone contemplating Starting in the industry. The scope of the industry brought within the provisions of the Industrial Efficiency Act related to the preparation of common salt for industrial or domestic use by the evaporation of seawater. So far no one had staited manufacture, though it .was understood a number of experiments by interested parties wore being carried out.
